The holiday season is in full swing and I have to say, I’m already starting to feel a little exhausted. I’ve already attended two Christmas parties and it’s far from over. Like myself and others, December is one of the busiest months. Due to work, events, hosting, family, travel and more — it’s easy to become stressed out, overwhelmed, and tired by the new year. I always tell myself I’m going to have a “chill” December, but I always end up on the go, go, go.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love being productive and having things to do — but keep in mind, it’s important to take time out of your day to take care of yourself. I’m going to be sharing 7 ways you can incorporate self care during the holidays.
1.) STICK TO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE
Just because it’s the holidays, doesn’t mean you have to stop incorporating your daily rituals. I thrive when I stick to a routine. Morning or night, I like to make sure I’m doing to same 5 things everyday to keep myself in check. Take time to make your breakfast every morning or make dinner every evening. What ever it is you normally do during, the week, stick to it.
2.) EXERCISE/HEALTHY HABITS
We all know that exercise is a great stress reliever. I know with our busy schedules, it can be hard to go to the gym. But you can do a few squats in your bedroom, or take 30 mins to walk around your neighborhood. Also be sure to stick to your healthy habits. Drinking water, having a vegetable with every meal, etc. During the holidays we tend to eat a lot of sugar or drink more alcohol than normal, so it’s great to still incorporate balanced meals and drink water.
3.) PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES YOU ENJOY
This is probably one of my favorite tips. Schedule time to hang out with friends and family and try to create new holiday traditions. I know it can be a crazy time with running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off, but taking time to hang out with friends and family will take a lot of stress off of you.
4.) KNOW WHEN IT’S TIME TO SAY NO
Saying no it’s so important and essential to self care. It’s so easy to stretch yourself too thin and you want to make sure you’re still taking time for yourself.
5.) ASK FOR HELP/OUTSOURCE
There’s nothing wrong with asking for help. Times have definitely changed where you can get your groceries delivered or place an order on Amazon prime for anything these days. Find a cleaning service to clean your home or look into on demand beauty service companies that can come to you to do your hair or nails. Find ways you can make your life easier.
6.) FOLLOW A BUDGET
This is extremely important because during the holiday season you tend to spend more, than you normally do throughout the year. If you’re hosting, make sure you’re not over spending on alcohol and food. Ask guests to bring a dish or a bottle of wine. We all have our loved ones on our Christmas list. When it comes to Christmas shopping, you do not have to spend a ton on gifts. If they love you, they will understand.
7.) REST
This is the obvious tip, but make sure you getting your rest. It’s okay to take a break, a nap, or getting your full eight hours. I know with “busy” culture, society makes it seem like you always have to be busy and on the go. Now I’m starting to appreciate a good nap and a little time to myself. You’re not going to be good to anybody if you’re not well rested.
Sticking to my daily routine during the holidays really helps me get out of that pre and post holiday slump! Thanks for the great tips!

I gotta say, I haven’t done the best job ever at following this list this year, but I’m learning from my experiences and hoping that in 2020 I can do a much better job exercising self-care during the holiday season. It’s super important, and necessary to make time for!
This is such a great list! Self-care is super important, and even more so when things around us are crazy.

I love your dedication to sharing self-care tips tailored to the holiday season! The “rest” tip may be my favorite. It’s so easy to go nonstop, since we have the ability to be connected ALL the time, everyday. But, you’re exactly right! We won’t be good to anyone else when we are not even taking care of ourselves. Love this share!
