I love a good trendy piece and to experiment with color. But I find myself getting bored after a while and it just collects dust in my closet. Fashion is always evolving and trends come and go, but it’s something about those every day basics.
One of my goals for 2020, is to do a massive closet clean out. I realized that I pretty much wear the same things on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. I think it’s important for everyone to have that corner or clothing rack of essential items. These are the pieces you invest in and if you want to experiment with color or trends, then you can try to find the best deal on them.
While getting ready for work one morning, I decided to share my essentials in a blog post. A capsule wardrobe is defined as a small selection of clothes where everything can work together. It focuses on versatility and quality.
This year, I’m going to be focusing on elevated basics and sprinkling “affordable” trendy pieces throughout the season. Check out my 10 essentials for winter!
Denim is an essential piece everyone should add to their wardrobe. I have been loving a good pair of high waisted skinny jeans or vintage/mom jeans.
I love black booties during the winter! I always buy a new pair every season. A good pair of black booties can be paired with jeans, skirts, dresses, etc.
The great thing about leather jackets or faux leather jackets are that they are extremely versatile and I think they are a piece you need in your closet all year round. They can be paired a ton of items you already have in your closet. You can have on a pair of jeans and a white tee but throwing on a leather jacket can elevate the look!
I love a good pair of sneakers. You can wear them to work (if your employer allows it), to Sunday brunch, or running errands. I believe they can be dressed up or down. I’m happy the athleisure trend is here to stay for a while. I love that I can wear a blazer, jeans, and tee and throw on a pair of sneakers and still look chic.
Luckily living in Atlanta can allow me to wear dresses year round but you can definitely go through your closet and make your summer staples winter friendly. You can pair them with ankle boots, knee high boots or even sneakers and mules.
This wouldn’t be a winter essentials post without including a cozy sweater. These are a simple piece that can elevate any outfit. They’re also great layering pieces!
Blazers are an essential piece in my wardrobe as you guys know! I can do a whole video/blog post on my blazer collection (LOL). I have been on the oversized blazer bandwagon for a while now and I love how versatile and chic it looks.
Who hated turtlenecks as a kid (raises hand)? Now they are really trendy and perfect to add to your winter wardrobe. They can be paired under blazers, coats, leather jackets, etc. Also can be worn with jeans and skirts.
Luckily being in the South, I can have a little flexibility with the shoes I wear. Now I’m not going to wear sandals all year round, but I love a good pair of flat mules. I’m always looking for a new pair of mules and I wear them all of the time to work.
I believe everyone should have a leather bag in their arsenal. As I’m getting older, I will rather pay for quality over quantity.
Do you guys curate pieces for each season? If so, what are your essentials this winter!
