How I Got my (Blogging) Groove Back

Hello all! It’s been a while right? This post isn’t going to be filled with my latest beauty buys or fashion trends I’m loving. This is going to be a post from the heart and I hope you guys will appreciate my honesty.

I’m going to preface this by saying I do not like giving up. This post has been sitting in my drafts for months and today is the day I’m going to explain why I took a hiatus from the blog. It was a number of reasons why I wanted to sit down and reevaluate my blogging career. So let’s get into it…

If you guys can remember, at the end of summer 2018, I went through two career changes as I left my toxic job and moved on to start something completely different in September of 2018.

When I started my new job, I didn’t have the flexibility to update my blog as often. There has been times where I wouldn’t post for weeks at a time. If you guys have been following me, then you would know that isn’t like me at all as I would post at least 5x’s a week.

When I had the motivation to blog, it seemed forced and thrown together. I wasn’t liking the direction my content was going and I felt like I was posting just to say I posted.

I did a post last year about the truth about blogging (now archived) and I talked about the comparison game. Towards the end of 2018, I was getting really frustrated because I wasn’t getting the sponsorships that my other blogger friends were getting or I felt like my Instagram wasn’t growing at the rate I wanted it to.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m always rooting for my fellow blogger friends but I was always wondering “when is it going to be my turn”? I also had questions in the back of my mind like “why am I even doing this”? “Do people really care about my content”? These were thoughts that consumed me until I made the decision to stop blogging and limit my time on social media.

I used to feel guilty when someone would ask about my blog and why they haven’t seen a post from me. I would quickly change the subject or just give a gloss over answer and say “oh I’m just rebranding”.

So what made me get up and get back to blogging? I felt like I have created my little corner of the internet and built a small community. Yeah I don’t have 10k followers on Instagram, but the one thing I knew I was good as was focusing on my blog. I mean at one point, I hit 20,000 views! That’s an amazing accomplishment for a small blogger. I had friends, family, and other blogger associates reach out to me to tell me how much they have enjoyed my weekly newsletters. I felt like this was something I had to fight for.

Throughout my blogging journey, I have taken on a whole new set of valuable skills and really showing my creativity. I was surprised at how many people would come to me asking me “how to build a website”? or “can you help with my social media presence for my business”? This has turned into a side hustle for me as well during my break from blogging.

Having these conversations with others brought me back as to why I started in the first place. When I started my blog, I told myself I want to use this platform to grow into something bigger. This is why I’m going to continue to blog and create.

I’ve only been blogging for almost three years. I can accept the fact that I have a long way to go. If this wasn’t meant to be, I wouldn’t be sitting here typing out this post right now.

I hope this post is to inspire you and my other fellow blogger babes to push through any obstacles you have in your life at the moment. Just remember that feelings are temporary.

I appreciate all of the love and support as I make my way back into full time blogging. I have missed it so much and I have a lot of great ideas in the works!

I haven’t posted in a awhile myself. I’ve been trying to find things to come up with and I’ll write it out and end up not liking it and throwing it away. I hope it doesn’t last long because my blog post was in July. I to have also been wondering how I can get brand deals. I see with with 1k getting deals and I haven’t gotten any real food offers myself. Hopefully that will come too.

I’ve felt that way too but I just didn’t know how to balance work, school, business, and blogging.

Wow I’m glad you got back up to blogging. It’s hard balancing for sure. I can understand. You want your content to be quality work and rushing to do blog posts won’t give your audience what they deserve. Checking out more! Love this. I never realized how much work went into maintaining a blog until I started one. I am glad that you are pushing through and taking breaks when needed.

Wow! I just started in July and was pretty consistent up until I returned to work (I’m a teacher). I posted my blog post yesterday for the first time in 2 months. I want to be diligent at completing one post a week. I can’t wait to get to 20,000 views! That’s amazing!

I have been in this same situation. Sometimes you get in a rut and you can’t let it get you down. We all have good days and bad days and those apply to blogging! People do not understand how hard and draining it can be. Thanks for sharing you story!

The best advice I can give to you is take your time! It’s all going to come together. 🙂

  14. September 10, 2019 / 2:44 pm

I get in a funk too. One of the best pieces of advice that I have is to start drafts when you have ideas and then come back ! I usually batch my content, so sometimes I write down ideas, other days I write outlines for each idea and then the days that I’m feeling creative are the days that I write. It helps me from feeling so stagnant.

Nicole, sweet friend, I am so glad you’re back! 20k views is such a huge accomplishment, despite not having the magic 10k number on IG. I can’t wait to see what great content you put out this year 🙂

I think the moral of everyone’s blogging career is to never give up! Breaks are nice and needed, but reflecting on the WHY can bring us back to our true purpose

I’m so glad you’re back! Sometimes we all need a break and a fresh perspective to get us back into that blogging groove again!

After reading this post, I totally understand how you feel and where you are coming from because I started feeling that way this year about blogging. It’s hard not to play the comparison game and focus on creating the best content. Blogging is harder nowadays especially it is so saturated and there is nothing wrong with taking a break from time to time. It is good to have a break to refresh your mind to get more creative! Keep going girl!❤️

you do you girl – and that includes YOUR timeline! there’s a lot of pressure to be constantly involved in your blog, and it’s great for people who are, but I found it exhausting. I stepped back to once a week – twice a week maybe – and it’s so much less stress!

  27. September 15, 2019 / 4:49 am

I need to to thank you for this good read!! I certainly enjoyed every
bit of it. I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff you post…

I’m currently going thru something pretty similar. I was working from home and a few weeks ago I went back into the work-force and don’t have the flexibility I used to have to update my blog. I thought about quitting but I really love it and would miss it so much. I decided to hire some help and cut down a bit on other things. Glad you realized that you love it and are getting back into it.

  29. September 16, 2019 / 3:26 pm

Get it girl! It’s so important to roll with the ups and downs.
