How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe for Fall

When transitioning into a new season, this is a great time to build a capsule wardrobe. I have been focusing on adding investment pieces I can rely on and mixing and matching with pieces you already have in your closet.

What’s a capsule wardrobe? I would define it as a small selection of clothes that you have that can work with everything. Essentials that are versatile and made with quality.

Keep scrolling to check out my picks.

BLAZER

This wouldn’t be a typical post from me if I didn’t include a blazer. If someone were to ask me what is one piece you need in your closet and I would definitely say a blazer. You can get them in a lot of different fits and patterns, you cannot go wrong! I wear my blazers with dresses, jeans, biker shorts, sneakers, and more!

LEATHER

Leather is always huge for Fall/Winter! I love a good leather jacket. Some may not agree, but I think you can pull off a leather jacket all year round. You can invest and get a real leather jacket or you can save a little money but still invest in a good quality faux leather jacket. My tip is to go up one size so you can wear your leather jacket with EVERYTHING. Chunky sweaters, button down shirts, dresses, and more.

STATEMENT BAG

As I’m getting older, I realized that every 20 something year old working girl should have a good quality handbag. Not to say that you have to spend thousands of dollars, actually you can spend $200 and still find a good quality bag! It’s all about something that’s going to work with your needs and style.

SWEATERS

A good cozy sweater is never going to go out of style. You can dress them up for work or dress them down for casual wear. I love sweaters because you can pair them with a lot of the pieces you already have in your closet. Now when it comes to the price of sweaters it’s really up to you. If you do want your sweaters to last all season long and have the potential to wear them when Fall comes again, I suggest spending a little more money on sweaters.

SHOES

Living in Atlanta, it doesn’t cool down until October. I think there’s a lot of great Summer to Fall transition shoes out there. One of my favorite transition styles are mules. I have been obsessed with mules for the past couple of years now. They are wearable and accessible. Every fashion brand from H&M to Gucci have mules in their shoe lineup.

You can never go wrong with a good pair of boots. Boots are a versatile shoe to add to your closet. For the reason that they pair well with a lot of pieces in your closet. I have a couple of pairs of boots in my closet already, but I have also been eyeing some new ones!

Alright, adding these essentials to your wardrobe is going to set you up for success this Fall! Just remember that a capsule wardrobe is super customizable. You can add whatever you want that suits your everyday style.

I neeeeeed to try this sometime! The idea just scares me, but maybe if I tried it for ONE season (and kept my closet in reserve, lol), I could get used to the idea of doing it long term.
