As much as we love applying makeup, we have to take it off at some point right? But, are you doing it properly? If you have been following me, then you would know that removing my makeup is the most important part of my skincare routine. If you still have traces of makeup on, your skincare products aren’t going to work because they cannot penetrate the skin if you’re still wearing makeup.
There are a number of different ways you can remove your makeup, but remember it usually takes a few steps to remove it all. Concealer, foundation, primer, sunscreen, etc, — it’s going to take a little bit of elbow grease to remove it.
In the past, I used to use a good ole makeup wipe. Now that I’m a little more educated on skincare, I don’t think makeup wipes are good for your skin. They include detergents that can dry out your skin and usually when you’re using a makeup wipe, you’re tugging on your skin — which can lead to wrinkles and saggy skin.
When it comes to proper makeup removal, I like to do a double cleanse. Double cleaning is to start with an oil based cleanser and using a water or gel based cleanser afterwards. First, I’ll melt off my makeup with a cleansing balm then follow up with my favorite cleanser at the moment. If I still have some mascara left over or foundation around the hairline, I’ll use a micellar water. Since I brought up micellar water, you cannot use this product as a first step. I see a ton of people doing this and I don’t think it’s effective. Micellar water is good for an easy cleanse in the morning or after a workout.
