When I made the decision to come back to blogging, I told myself that it’s important to have balance. As a blogger/social media influencer, there’s this unwanted pressure to always feel connected. Yes, this is a decision we make to share our lives on the internet — but we have to set certain boundaries when it comes to what we post and share.
Ever since I have been blogging, I always hear that the key to growing is consistency. While this is true, I’m always feeling like I’m on my phone or computer. Checking emails, responding to comments, sharing that favorite sweater of yours that’s on sale, etc.
Now that we are heading into Holiday Season (which is a very busy time for bloggers and other content creators) I’m going to be implementing a lot of balance into my life when it comes to running my business. I’m going to be using these strategies to avoid burnout and enjoy life without feeling like I have to be connected 24/7.
Set Office Hours
I do work a full time job outside of blogging, but with my flexible schedule I’m able to do both simultaneously. Your blog is your business, it’s okay to have a start and stop time. When I have days I can work eight hours on my blog, I work 9am-5pm. I use this time to go through all of my emails, shoot content, draft blog posts, and more. This is important because you’re setting boundaries for yourself. Of course some days are longer than others, but I try not to answer an email after 5pm.
Since coming back to blogging, I have been implementing this and it’s been helping out a lot! I’m able to still have balance in my life while handling business when needed.
Limit Social Media usage on the Weekends
This may be hard to do because on the weekend, we tend to do a ton of activities. You can still be active but not active at the same time (if that makes sense). Went to your favorite brunch spot? Take photos and upload to stories at the end of the day. That way you’re still staying present with your loved ones but still sharing with your followers.
Have a busy week coming up and you’re not able to post to your blog or other creative outlets? Prep and schedule content ahead of time. This has been a game changer for me! Utilize the features you have on your blog outlet and YouTube. I also utilize social media apps such as Hootsuite or Buffer for Twitter and Facebook posts, and UNUM to schedule Instagram posts. I love to post YouTube videos, but they can be time consuming to plan the video, edit, and upload. When I want to stay consistent with uploading videos for the month, I’ll plan in advance.
As I said before, we are going into the busiest time of the year and I want to be able to enjoy time with my friends and family without stressing over my responsibilities as a blogger/influencer.
